#1 Another "Emotional Distress" lawsuit, only funnier

Post by rhoenix »

Gizmodo wrote:Apparently Julian Assange has some new legal troubles to worry about: He and WikiLeaks are facing a typo-filled $150 million lawsuit because a Florida man feels that he has suffered some serious emotional distress at the hands of the organization.

David Pitchford claims that WikiLeaks' release of sensitive documents has caused him all sorts of personal damage including a worsening of his hyper-tension, depression, and stress. He also explains that he now lives in "constant fear of being stricken by another heart attack and or stroke" due to the belief that the world is now "on the brink of Nucliar WAR."

I really don't think this whole thing will go as well as Pitchford might hope, but at least he is no stranger to disappointment from cases like this as he has apparently unsuccessfully sued Osama Bin Laden in the past.
The complete documents are here:

As for the actual article... wow. Words sincerely fail me.

Yeah. Right. What?

Since when is Free Speech in the US limited to members of the Press (and where is it defined who is and isn't a member of the press, while we're at it), and where does nationality figure into it? Since when is claiming the right to Free Speech equivalent to claiming US citizenship, and how in Valen's name is that in any way relevant to begin with?

I would very much like to see it explained how those wikileaks 'endanger the enire planet' given their impact over here in continental Europe so far seems to have been...inexistent?

And oh boy. I've seen some bad english across the fora in my time, often from native speakers, but this seriously takes the cake.

EDIT: And I'm SO not reading the other three pages given what I've seen so far.
I MIGHT inflict them on my english teacher if I find a way though.

NOW COMES the Plaintiff, David Pitchford and would state and show the following as a cause of action to wit:
Wow this is funny stuff.

Claiming to operate a "journalism entity" protected by the free speech clause is claiming citizenship. Who knew. All those immigrants who are waiting for years on end for their citizenship have got it all wrong.

Leaking documents is NEGLIGENT (wait, it was Private Manning who supposedly leaked the documents, Wikileaks just posted them... :???: )

NEGLIGENCE constitutes INTENTIONAL INFLICTION OF EMOTIONAL DISTRESS.

And they're also guilty of TERRORISM EPSIONAGE and TREASON.

...as a result of which his hypertension, depression stress and fear of heart attack, not to mention fear of Nuclear WAR has gotten worse.

But what's this:
That in addition to the foregoing the Plaintiff worn is disabled fears that the cost to correct the deliberate damage to the United States of America will diminish the Medicaid benefits that the Plaintiff Depends apon for health care in that the United States is Out of money
Ow.

He then accuses the Defendants of negotiating a book deal and that he Court should seize "all assets and funds, including and not limited to the book deal money mentioned herein, that would further allow the Defendants to further injur the Plaintiff until this cause is brought to frusion"

Oh, and he respectfully demands 150 million dollars in damages. A modest request.
