Pathfinder had to admit to curiosity finally, walking over to watch Hunter and the Joes play with the new toys. This put him closer to Deathstrike, but other than a couple of sidelong glances, the smaller Autobot ignored the larger Decepticon.
He told Overload he was going to be nice. Nice meant not saying a damn thing, otherwise Pathfinder would not be saying nice things.

"Go ahead and say what's on your mind Autobot," said Deathstrike.

"I'm being nice and keeping my mouth shut," Pathfinder answered... and then proved himself lying. "After all, isn't that one reason why you slagged me?"

"No, it isn't," said Deathstrike. "It did make it easier though."

Pathfinder's blue optics narrowed as he gave the Decepticon a darker side glance, still keeping his face forward. "I'm suuuure it did. But you did a great job hitting the building, so I had to compliment you on it."

Hunter put the bazooka over his shoulder and was about to pull the trigger when the two Transformers started to bicker. "Hold on a moment, Miss."
Hunter placed the MAW down and turned to look up at the bickering Transformers. "If you two overgrown toasters are done, don't you both have something better to do than snipe at each other and make the rest of us feel really nervous about working with either of you?"

"I lost the missiles and I suffered minimal damage from the impact," said Deathstrike. "It was the logical move."

"Now you sound like Soundwave..." Pathfinder said, then looked down at Hunter. The more playful side of the Autobot came out in reply.
"We're just catching up, it's been four million of your years, you know..." Pathfinder protested, then trailed off, finally turning his head to actually look up at Deathstrike. "... or would it five...?"
Pathfinder knew the sheer number of years the Autobots could casually throw about drove Hunter crazy.

"Deathstrike," said Stephanie softly. "You're making people nervous. Could you please be less combatative?"
"As you wish," replied the Decepticon.

Hunter narrowed his eyes and looked over at Stephanie. "Are they always like this? Have you found a way to shut one up yet? I'd love to know."

"Deathstrike is the only one I know," said Stephanie. "He's not particularly talkative, but he can tell you in horrible detail what it's like to die of radiation poisoning."

Pathfinder looked down to Stephanie, then up to Deathstrike, then down to Stephanie, then up to Deathstrike again, optics wide in shock.
".. You... you..." the Autobot looked back down to Stephanie again. "you...you ..... SLAG! You do have him honor-bound, don't you!"

"No, he does what I ask because he's irresistibly attracted to me despite being an alien robot and he's convinced that short lived, frail organic life with kludged together brains are his natural superiors." The scientist rolled her eyes.

Hunter balked a bit "Think I'll pass on the radiation talk."
When Pathfinder blurted out in amazement and Stephanie responded Hunter couldn't help but laugh his ass off. "Well if I may say so you certainly aren't sore on the eyes, but don't be so harsh on we organ filled squishies Miss."
Hunter got his head back in the game and picked up the MAW again, lining it up with a chunk of building that had been blown off during the previous attack, he pulled the trigger and the rocket fired out the end, striking the target dead on and shattering it to pieces.
"Hot damn! I think I've got a new love in my life!"

Pathfinder was impressed. "Wow, Hunter, you actually hit something," the Autobot teased. "Of course it would have to be with something explosive. Otherwise you'd never do damage."
Things were getting back to normal, if Pathfinder was giving Hunter a hard time.

Overload did interject at last, peering to Stephanie. "Honor's.. Important to the big guy. I won't deny he's a total bastard who was my enemy, but he's gonna feel like a failure and a traitor for a long while. Don't take him or his oath for granted. I'm sure you don't plan to, but I feel I should emphasize how important it is to him."

Overload ruminated for a long time. "Trying to be as impartial as I can.. He's a pit gladiator writ impossibly large. I've done more than a few rounds in the Pit for the thrill, but Megs.. He always seems to seek the next huge fight, and for his rewards for the 'match', he wants it all. All, as you might expect, means more to a spacefaring race who lives for millions of years than even the most ego-bloated human."
"War by any rule. By any measure. For the purpose of conquest. For his dream of an Empire."

"Not familiar with the references, but I imagine every species has alot of empire-builders." Overload nodded. "But. These symbols.." A tap of the Autobot ensignia. "Mean alot to us. We can and do change allegiances, seen it myself. But for alot of bots, it's unthinkable. You probably heard them all." A shake of his head. "And that's the least of it. It's unthinkable to them, so they don't believe it. Now imagine what it's like for the guy who did it."Cynical Cat wrote:Stephanie nodded. "That's what I thought. Ceasar. Straightening as he got to his feet, Crosswind examined his handiwork, as he watched the startup sequence for the last AA gun complete. The basics were now done, at least for this side of the base - the base was wired for power, and so were the basic defenses.
Time for the less basic defenses, he thought. Let's test a theory here. "Hey, 'Strike! Want to help with things that explode?"
He couldn't resist a small smile. If Deathstrike was willing to help him with the more...unusual base defenses, it would show a small gesture of trust on his part, as Deathstrike had fallen prey to Crosswind's trap handiwork before. Not as often as his former brethren, but still enough to remember. Having the former 'Con helping him would mean that he'd see how a few of the traps were setup finally, as well as letting Crosswind figure out what was going on in Deathstrike's processors a bit better.

The big Decepticon walked over to Crosswind. The smaller Autobot could be a dangerous handful when he wanted to be. Odds were that he had kill orders if Deathstrike "stepped out of line" and he was a highly maneuverable areal combat specialist. Deathstrike would not merely have to fight alongside these Autobots, but he would have to do so in a manner that didn't trigger their paranoia. This was going to be constraining.
"How may I be of assistance?" asked the Decepticon.

"That's not why I don't believe it."
Smaller than Overload, Cavalier was still a large robot by any standards one cared to apply to the term, and he walked over to Overload and Stephanie, his voice much calmer than it had been when he was first informed of Deathstrike's arrival.
"Megatron's a monster who'll just as soon burn a planet to cinders to get the Energon out of its core, inhabited or no. This place... this is just the casual atrocities he can squeeze in, in the middle of a war. If he wins, there won't be any comparison to what he does."
He turned to watch Deathstrike, who was walking over to Crosswind, and casually pointed him out.
"And Deathstrike served that. Willingly. For millions of years. Megatron said jump, Deathstrike asked how high. And sure, we all serve somebody. Hell, I do too. But what you serve says a lot about who you are. Deathstrike signed on with the greatest war criminal in the history of the galaxy. And if he hadn't burned his bridges somehow, he'd be there to this day."
Cavalier was speaking in low tones, arms crossed, simply watching Deathstrike.
"We're living, thinking, sentient beings, Doc. We don't get to hide from the things we've done just by changing our paint and pretending that we didn't have a say. Deathstrike's not here because he wants to follow a new leader, or serve Optimus or even get revenge on the 'cons. He's here because he can't think up a way to let himself do what I guarantee you he's thinking about doing right this second. And when he does think up a way... then I just hope Crosswind can put him down, or that I can, because if we can't, then a whole lot of people are going to die. And most of them will be humans."
He sighed in frustration and turned away. "Honor's just an excuse to avoid thinking or guilt. He's as dirty as Megatron is, and mark my words, he's gonna prove it sooner rather than later."

"I don't need you to give me any more nightmares about Megatron," replied Stephanie. "And you're right, Deathstrike served him with enthusiasm. How much time and effort are you going to waste watching and hating him instead of against the enemy?"
