And in honor of National Novel Writing Month, an update. I'll try to keep it going this time, I promise. I'll probably rework the conversation with Kaele; I was rather rushing it to get it done before the end of the day.

Why do I somehow doubt he'll get outta Westgate like that?
Keep them coming.

Oh, I think you may be surprised. I've already given all the puzzle pieces in the story; the big reveal's going to be in a couple chapters.

That's for me to write and you to read.

Will it take another year to get a new chapter?

Probably not. I can't stand letting myself wait on a cliffhanger like that for that long.

Not even I usually know specifically what I'm going to do in any given chapter until I do it; the idea of ending with Gilchrist run through didn't even occur to me until halfway through the fight, much like I didn't decide to end the last chapter with Griflet missing until halfway through it. It also helped that I dug through my character sheet folder, found his sheet, compared a few things, and realized that even lasting three rounds would be a miraculous stroke of luck.

Okay, I'm putting this in writing so that I might have a prayer of actually motivating myself to do it: I'm aiming to finish this story arc on Halloween. Book 1's finale is appropriate enough for the day, and it gives me something to work towards so I'm not another six months putting out an update.

Did they really get Gil taken care of in time, hmm? Or is he going to come back for his dear Prince.

How do you mean, milady?
Edit: Oh, you meant Griflet. Well, that remains to be seen, doesn't it?

A little short, but that's the danger of an interlude without an action scene. I really didn't have anything else to say that wouldn't hugely spoil the underlying plot.

Okay, show of hands. Did anyone even remotely see this coming?

Yes.
And he should have listend to the servant.

And that's it for Book One. Sorry I missed posting that on Halloween; the length just kept spiraling out of control and I didn't get it done before it was time to go to the Wednesday night game.

I'm going to start scribbling down stuff during breaks at work more often. I seem to get more writing done that way than by actually sitting down at home to write.

I know, I know. Cliffhanger. I was going to go on, but the line just struck me as so hardass that it deserved a chapter ending.
