#1 Dragonlance the Movie Autumn 2007...

Post by Dark Silver »

Yes, thier making a Dragonlance movie, to be released in Autumn, 2007.

Appropriatly enough, their basing the movie off of Dragons of Autumn Flame

It will be a animated movie, not live action, blending 2d characters with 3d background. This could be good, depending on the quality they use. The new Transformer cartoons (Energon and Cybertron mostly) use computer generated characters on 2d backgrounds, (which suck heavily) and is a example of how NOT to do thier animation.

Weis and Hickman are heavily involved in all phases of production apparently, even down to selecting voicecast.

The movie is 90% casted, and here is the cast list so far

------ ------ ------ ------

Tanis Half-Elven
Michael Rosenbaum

Raistlin Majere
Kiefer Sutherland

Goldmoon
Lucy Lawless

Flint Fireforge / Fewmaster Toede
Fred Tatasciore

Tika Waylan
Michelle Trachtenberg

Caramon Majere
Rino Romano

Tasslehoff Burrfoot
Jason Marsden

Fizban The Fabulous
Neil Ross

Sturm Brightblade
Mark Worden

Riverwind & Gilthanas
Phil Lamarr

Bupu
Jentle Phoenix

Laurana
Caroline Gelabert

Takhisis
Nikka Futterman

The Forestmaster
Mari Weiss

Elistan
Ben McCain

Pyros
Dee Bradley Baker

Flamestrike
Susan Silo

Onyx
Juliette Cohen

------ ------ ------ ------

I'm not sure about Keifer Sutherland as Raistlin...I don't know if he can pull off the voice.

I do hope they get it right, include Xak Tasorth in the movie, as well as Pak Tharkas, and Qualinesti, and the mountains.

Basically, I hope they do the movie right!

*whap* Learn to read, youngling.

What worries me is the screenwriter. His credits? Hercules:Legendary Journeys, Xena:WarriorPrincess, and Cleopatra 2525.

Actually glancing at that list I have a few reservations...

Lucy Lawless as Goldmoon? I remember her as Xena. Big ass amazon of a woman. I'm not picturing her as the nomadic Goldmoon. Goldmoon was never depicted or described as a big ass amazon. And Trachenburg for Tika? Don't get me wrong, the girl is attractive and all but Tika? Tika was, again if I recall correctly, a little...stouter? She was not a small frail girl. She was a fairly attractive girl that could handle her own.

Jack Bauer as a wizard! Kiefer's cool, I'll watch it coz he's in it (or his voice is in it, same thing).

I look forward to seeing this movie. In fact, to be perfetly honest, it is animated so I see no excuse for it to deviate from the book at all  as anything that can be written, can be drawn.

I am pretty sure that Kiefer can pull of Raistlin's voice... which really is my only concern, making sure Raistlin is done correctly. I dont think there will be a problem though, he is the most popular character in the entire series, they woulndnt dare fuck him up by relegating him to the sidelines in any way.

Considering when they announced Keifer Sutherland's casting as Raistlin, they used the words "Sutherland has been cast in the lead role....." that Raist will be pushed to the sidelines...

infact....out of all the hero's, it's Tanis and Raistlin which are the starpower of all this, especially Tanis. Thier diametrically opposed, Tanis being the good, Raistlin Evil (though he DOES get redeemed.)

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Ras was not evil in DoAT, he was a red robe and he was self interested yeah but what do you expect with his history. He did plenty for the rest of the companions! Not Evil until Winter at least I would say.

Raistlin was never REALLY evil. At least not in my opinion anyhow. Selfish prick on a lot of occassiosn yes but I don't think he ever was what one could call truely evil.

I'm pretty sure selling your soul for selfish reasons is counted as an evil act. And then there was his selling out to the black robes bit...

Even when he turned to the Black Robes (the only reason he even did that in Winter, was because the Dark Queen told him that would be the only way to save his friends....and to obtain the Key to Fistandantilus' Spellbooks), he wasn't evil. He just always looked out for himself. He did what he could at times to help his brother and his former companions, but he also knew the time to strike (when he cast the spell which brought down Highlord Arakus shield so Tanis could lay the final blow on him), and he actually turned a killing spell, into a healing one when he cursed Tasselhoff of the poison from the door.

I say Raist was evil....but he really wasn't. He was....hard to describe. In his position? I find it hard pressed to say I wouldn't have made the same choices. As a Red Robe, he wouldn't have access to Arakus and Nereka as he did when as a Black Robe, he wouldn't have been in the positions to do what he needed, or obtain what he desired (the Dragon Orb from Silvenesti, or fulfill the Prophecy of the Return of the Master of Past and Present).

1) Raist was evil at least through the Dragons of Spring Dawning and until the end of the Twin's trilogy.. He maimed, he killed, he put himself above the world wrecking consequences of his actions. That isn't to say there was nothing good about him, but to deny he is evil deny his ruthlessness and ambition. That said, he isn't without his virtues which ultimately cause him to return to the light but to deny his evil is to white wash his actions.

2) Keifer Southerland do a low, sinister voice? This is right up his alley.

3) Goldmoon is one tough cookie and Lucy Lawless seems pretty good with accents. Good casting for a part that requires her to voice a character with real steel in her heart. She stays true to her goddess and her true love despite every obstacle and confronts every challenge fiercely.

4) I like all the choices of the voices I recognize.

5) I still hate Fizban, even moreso since they feel compelled to recycle him. And fuck all the so called Good Gods of Krynn for the Cataclysm. If you didn't like what your priests were doing you could have cut off the juice instead of mass murder you self righteous assholes. And what crack were you smoking when you decided to give Soth the opportunity to stop it instead of someone who wasn't an jealousy prone murderer?
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.
