Jonathon retrieved his drink and paid for it before looking over at the door where two more people stood, a dark man and a fairy of some sort. "Indeed I am here for that purpose, and if you are as well I'll be so kind as to offer you a drink before we set off on our journey." Jonathon smiled broadly. There was something familiar about the continence of this man. He'd never seen him before but the way his flesh looked, the way his hair looked, the very way he carried himself, it was familiar.

"I must sadly decline," said Syvannus. "I regularily consume an alchemical potion which reacts poorly with alcohol, among other things. I thank you for your kind offer."

"If you cannot drink with us, perhaps you will dine with us?" the gnome said, if he refuses food then... something is narrowed down

Syvannus smiled. "Two mages and some experienced travellers. I should not be surprised at all. Yes, my condition is as you suspect."

Jonathon shruged. "And you will come to know mine soon enough." then he went back to his drink. "I don't hold it against you though. You can at least come sit and rest."

Jonathon spared a glare at the gnome. "It is impolite to force people to reveal information they do not wish to give out."

"Thank you," Syvannus replied. "Some people react very poorly upon learning of it. With no room in here to retreat, if I was confronted with a hostile reaction I would probably have to use force to defend myself and that would be unfortunate."

His suspicions confimed, arvalas whispered a word and soon he was whispering in the vampire's ear unheard by others and not moving his lips

"Now the question is, why should we allow you to continue your unlife? Even if you slay one or most of us, you will be overwhelmed. State your true intent, undead. If your intent is good, then we will have no cause to fight. However if your intent is ill... may not 'live' to regret your undead state This spell will allow you to reply in secret"

He looks toward the vampire

"I hope you understand"

Syvannus's head snapped around and glared at the gnome. You dare threaten me? I who have come in peace and offered you no violence? I, who have plundered the vaults of of the Shrouded Shore, sought spells in lost Unindar, duelled with the Fire Witches on the Unpaku, and defeated a dreaded Deodand with naked steel? If I was not prepared to defend myself I would have not walked in. I am with powerful spells this day. I intend you no harm and would ask that if you wish violence that we leave this place so no innocents will be harmed.

He turned back to Jonathon. "I see not everyone shares your opinions. Thank you for your kind words."

The spell was still active of course

"I wish no violence and apologize for my rudeness. You must understand that one becomes... wary after a certain amount of travel. I have heard stories of vampires which are most unploeqasant, and have killed them before. You are the sixth vampire I have encountered and the first five preyed on villages and slaughtered many innocents. SO again, I apologize and there is no further prejudice on my part."

The man-beasts of the far mountains are no kin of mine, that much should be obvious. I will speak of this no more, unless pressed.

Very well, again, I apologize.

The spell ended

"At any rate" the gnome said "It is much easier to destroy goblins and vile evil things if we work in groups. As they may overwhelm isolated hunters."
He motioned for the inkeeper to bring him a pint of ale and a plate of spiced potatoes

"Ah, such is true. Hmm..." He thinks for a moment.

"there are several options open to us. First, we can split our seperate ways and see who survives" he chuckles at this thought
"Alternatively we can split into several groups." He looks at the red robed mage and the Elf
"Or, we can get to the business of getting to know one another and developing that level of trust. For mutual benefit if nothing else"

Majorie spoke at last.

"There ae far to many of us for a single group. However, it would be prudent to maintian a light magical contact in case of any emergency. Better safe than sorry."

"Cumbersome, and the kill rate for the group would have to be astounding. While the thought of killing off goblins in large numbers is not unpleasant, I'd much rather increase our effieciency in gathering ears."

The bartender is no where to be found, so the elf's ears fall on conversation within the room.

Accessing the situation, a gnome who practices magic, a vampire who "was a sorcerer", and a human who practices magic. Interesting crew. And by interesting, she can interchange the words odd and overbalanced in magic. She can almost see the wand measuring contests beginning. It looks like they are already forming a party of sorts. She hopes that they will not cause mischief in their quest to be gallant. Should she join the crew or go of her own accord?

They are headed in the same direction. That much magic with no scouting or muscle, the creatures are likely to get themselves killed, urr...in some cases, a second time.

It seems to suit all of their needs to stay together for safety. Let them gossip like school girls on a Sunday morning and "get to know each other" for their own peace of mind. Mefarrian, for one, knows the mission and the ties that will bind them together. Trust is not needed. There is a mutually benefical interest that will keep them all in check. However, she cannot keep an eye on them if these fools go and seperate themselves in the wood.

She speaks softly to the general public, an underlying knowledge infusing her words, "We stay close to the trail left behind." And that is all that needs to be said. Even if they "seperate", the trail and their coin purses will lead them in the same direction.
"She believed in nothing; only her skepticism kept her from being an atheist."

"I will be departing," replied Syvannus. "I will see the rest of you in the morning, if fortune smiles upon us. I have some hunting to do and hopefully will have fresh meat upon my return, which will be of no use to me but might make a nice meal for the rest of you. I shall not force my company upon those who are uncomfortable around me. Good night."

With that the vampire headed for the door, intent upon returning to the forest and searching for prey.

Jonathon smiled knowingly towards Syvannus. "I have my reasons for my understanding." He looked around to the others, "As for seperating, that is both wise and foolish. We'll be harder to notice if we're split up, but we will be easier targets. The best thing I believe we can do is split up with regular meetings along the path. That way information can be traded and we can better coordinate attacks against large groupings." Jonathon took another drink from his mug.
